For Mastering Your Mental Wellbeing

What If I am...?

Feb 07, 2019

In the last blog, I talked about three parts of YOU, the mind, the body and the spirit. I also mentioned that your mind is your ‘free will’ which is your ability to choose what you focus on. You have a choice in focusing on the bad thoughts or good ones. Where your focus goes, your energy flows in that direction. Wouldn’t be so useful to focus on useful thoughts that are conducive to your growth, happiness, wellbeing etc?

It would, right? But it is easier said than done.

Especially when you are in the habit of thinking the worst of everything, mostly yourself. Say like… when you make a mistake, or someone questions a piece of work you have done, or when you want to go and do something totally different to what you are used to doing…totally out of your ‘comfort zone’ and especially then.

You might ask, why would you want to come out of your comfort zone? There is nothing wrong with it right? It is the ‘comfort zone’ after all. It brings you ‘comfort’, ‘safety’ and the warm and fuzzy feeling of the ‘known’.

Yes, there is nothing wrong with being in your ‘comfort zone’, if you want to live like a hamster on a wheel, that is; doing the same things over and over again; day in-day out without having to think about it at all; and slowly stagnating, diminishing day by day until the day you die.

BUT, I know you are not like that.

You desperately want to come out of your comfort zone; but you either don’t know what to do or are too scared to do it. Even the thought of jumping off that wheel fills you with dread and the irrational thoughts fills your head at a speed of million miles an hour. Irrational thoughts like: What if I fail, what if I am not good enough, what if I don’t know everything; what if I can’t do it; what if this is not for me; what if I get judged etc. …

Guess what? I know how that feels, and you are not alone. Join my Facebook Group now to engage with others who are in the same boat too.

Given that you can choose your thoughts, how about choose good thoughts, fill your head with better alternatives? What if…, indeed, there is an alternative way of thinking? Imagine the thoughts that would fill your head then. They would be like…

What if I am good enough?

What if I was made for this?

What if I am smart enough?

What if it opens endless possibilities that I can only dream of?

What if my dreams come true?

What if I am enough?

What if I meet new people and make new connections?

What if I can help others?

What if people love me for who I am?

What if I can change one person’s life?

What if I can change my own life by being true to myself?

What if I there is no failure?

What if…?

You get the point.

So why not give it a try today? Rather than thinking the worst possible outcome, being scared and getting in your own way, try the alternative and see what some positive self-talk could do for you? Better still, join the conversation in my Facebook Group and let me know.

Until next time, stay ‘safe’ or ‘be excited’ about the possibilities that could open-up for you if you make the leap. The choice is yours!
