Imagine for a minute, you don't like pink elephants and are thinking 'I hate pink elephants'.

Reframing this thought might look like this: 'I don't like pink elephants, but I don't have to like pink elephants to work in the zoo'.

Your mind will automatically go to:' I don't like pink elephants' and as your brain is unable to register the 'negative' part of the sentence (I don't like) all you will be focused on is the pink elephant - the very thing you don't like!

So as you can see, re-framing an unhelpful thought only keeps you more focused on it.
